Another year has gone by, and I realise I have not been here for a while. In my line of ‘work’ you don’t get much spare time for such things. Yet again the tree went up at the last minute, as well as all the other decorations. As always the tree installation was helped by the two moggies, but at least they did not try and climb it this year. Darcey did, however, manage to work out which were their pressies under the tree. How do they know? The catnip banana was still in its vacuum pack when I wrapped it. She can’t have been able to smell it surely? Neither of them played much with them afterwards either.

Now call me crazy – and I won’t disagree – but this year I bought them a box. It was not just any box, which there were also plenty of. No, this box had a scratchy cardboard inner and came with catnip, and even had to be assembled (with instructions on how to do it too). Dooky enjoyed sitting in it for quite a while, on Boxing Day, but not much since. Cats will be cats after all.

This year Dooky showed a great deal of interest in the King’s Christmas Message. I’ve never seen him watch the TV like this before, so there must have been something that caught his eye. I enjoyed the message too, as it reflected quite a few of the things I’d mentioned in my Christmas sermons – like being kind and loving and making peace – things we all could do with in 2025. Let’s see shall we?
So we look forward to another year with cats, and their craziness – that matches mine as it happens.

Talking of which, we did manage to see the New Year in – just about. The fireworks round our way started about 9pm, which was hardly fair on our scaredy cat Dooky, who clung to our feet for the rest of the year (3 hours). We had tried to watch a movie we had kept for the occasion, but it turned out to be rubbish. So we returned to our rewatching of Babylon 5, which we had watched when we first got married. I am enjoying it, but sadly often fall asleep and have to catch it up later. This does not go down well with the other half, as he keeps having to watch bits twice… or more sometimes.

I did briefly toy with getting another cat, a kitten. There were a few on offer too. In fact I barely escaped being given a whole family of them at one point. In the end we gave up on the idea, as we were not sure how it would go down with our two old moggies. I can dream though, especially after the magnificent picture I found while on holiday earlier in the year. Says it all really.
I wonder if we make it to 2026 without getting another one? I’ll keep you posted!
